Cant login anymore - server changed to php5
Thanks for your nice script (mynews).
I have been very happy with it for the last weeks.
My server changed to php5 and now i can't login anymore to write new posts or edit other entries.
Please help.

Have you checked your permissions on the 'data.dat' and '/forum/log.dat.html' files? I'm wondering if your webserver updated the PHP the permissions may have been lost in the process.

You need to give us a little more info if you need some help. MyNews does in fact work on a PHP5 server (my personal server is running PHP 5.1.2 and all planetluc scripts work on it). It seems like your webserver changed something in the transition from PHP4 to PHP5. I can try to take a look, but there's not much I can do unless you give me FTP access to verify permissions, etc. (and even then I may not be able to determine the problem). If you want me to take a look, set up a temporary FTP access for me and send it to sid SPLAT sidtheduck DOT com

I don't see anything obviously wrong with your php.ini. Is there any way you can send or post a link to your install of MyNews and change the login / password back to admin / pass temporarily?

Hi, I know this thread has been open a long time, but I recently had an update problem as well, and it seemed to be a "short_open_tag" problem.
I manually changed al <? code to <?PHP and now everything works fine again.

Ok, looks like not everything is fine with the changes I made.
When I try to log on I get a 404 error on this url:
http://root/<?=$me.$getvars?>
Any thoughts?

the same happened to me - i'm running php v.5 and the scripts wouldnt run untill i replace <? with <?PHP
and then the same problem appeared - when I try to login the server gives me error 404
here is the link:
